Things to consider:
- the smallest pendant post that came in the box was 12" (and can not be cut since it has threads on both ends) - and then with the light fixture itself being at least 4" high, will have to be OK with the light coming down at least 16" from the ceiling
- the bulb (as per the size/type recommended) does not come down as far as shown in the picture (not much outside the metal cover), so the light is very definitely cast downward

But it was easy to put together and install - and it can also work great on a slanted ceiling due to the nice design up in the top of the fixture (ball bearing so the pendant can hang straight down)

The lights are really nice. The bulb is a little off center, like it shows in the picture, but it doesn't matter. I guess that's how it's supposed to be? I installed them myself and it was a snap. All three of them took about 45 minutes, but I was replacing other lights, so all the wiring was already there.

The light and the larger version add a perfect touch of seaside rustic class to our seaside cottage home!!! this one is in the stairwell, the larger over the dining table. size is great too
